Being is a mobile application with a collection of scientifically-backed activities and exercises that can reduce anxiety, depression, or overall life stress. Starting out as a passion project, Being aims to provide relief for high-stress students and professionals in a way that allows them to have a soothing, calming, and stress-free experience.

 

The Challenge

Current wellness and mindfulness apps have a stronghold on the existing market. However, the majority of the most highly competitive apps are meditation-based. The goal is to develop an interface and brand for everyday stressed-out humans to help ease their stress and anxiety with simple, more than mediation-based practices.

 
 

Creative Direction

When creating the brand concept, the aim was to keep universal experiences in mind with could also involve feelings of calm. The stand-out commonaility: being able to experience this world as we know it. Keeping in tune with being present, we wanted something that ebbed and flowed just as we do. Looking to the natural world for inspiration, we landed on clouds as our mark. Clouds are something we are all familiar with and force us to be present to genuinely see.

As we looked to the clouds it became clear our obvious backdrop should be inspired by the skyline. This led to our clear choice in color palette including mostly blue hues which happens to be the most scientifically peaceful color. We went with a clean and simple typeface to compliment our serene skies and peaceful clouds.

Design Process

The base of Being began with research. We researched best mental health practices and analyzed how they could be implemented within an app while addressing the goals of our future users. Upon culminating my findings, I identified the main features, goals, and themes of Being.

With thorough research from the target audience and the competition, we created four basic sketched user flows that addressed the core functions of Being. After testing them with users, we settled on the foundational user flow and layout. From there, wireframes were created with minimal prototyping that were further tested with users. User feedback was further implemented in the remaining revision rounds until creating the full prototype.

Solution

Being came to life in a clean and streamlined interface targeting wellness and mindfulness in an accessaible way for everyday people. By offering core easy and simple activities in a claming digital enviorment it sucessfully engages mets the needs of its users.
